National Night Out
Tuesday, Aug. 1, is National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. Current events across the country underscore the importance of healthy relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The Bucks County National Night Out will be held in Bensalem. Festivities will be between 5-7 p.m. at the pavilion of the Township Municipal Complex, located at 2400 Byberry Road.

Thank you to our first responders and public safety officers for working to keep us safe. For more information about the National Night event, click here.
Senate Passes Revenue Package

Earlier this week the Senate passed a package of bills, which, if signed into law, would complete the budget process for the 2017-18 fiscal year. Additionally, the proposal would fill the fiscal gap we currently have that is the result of revenue in coming less than projected.

Tough decisions to safeguard Pennsylvania taxpayers and our credit rating have to be made. The House will most likely be called back to session soon to consider these bills. Currently, we remain at a six-hour call of the chair, which means we’d have a six-hour notice to return to Harrisburg.

Bills Signed into Law

The legislative process is slow and deliberate by design, taking some lawmakers years and years before their proposals are considered by the House and Senate and ultimately signed into law by the governor.

For a list of bills recently signed into law, click here. For complete information on the acts, go to and type in the bill number in the search box. For example, type in “HR22” to read more about my resolution that designated January Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.

Beware of Scammers

There has been an increase in the number of reports of individuals calling PECO customers and falsely claiming their electric or gas service will be disconnected unless payment is made. These impersonators instruct customers to buy a prepaid credit card and call back to a different phone number with the personal identification number (PIN) or other personal information.

They also use a tactic called “spoofing,” during which the caller ID is manipulated to display a phone number that appears as a PECO number. Customers are also encouraged to be mindful of individuals who try to gain access to their homes by posing as utility workers. Utility impostors may carry “official” looking credentials and often work in pairs.

Should you suspect an individual is attempting to scam you over the phone, please notify the Federal Trade Commission.

Push Out the Pusher Program Underway

Events in Bucks County during the last couple of weeks have shown a spotlight on the need to get to the root of the drug problem. Local efforts to stop the pusher before selling drugs to the users have been stepped up to include rewards for tips.

Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub collaborated with Rep. John Galloway (D-Bucks) to kick off a new “Push Out the Pusher” program to encourage residents to report drug activity.

Residents who report drug activity that results in a conviction will receive a $5,000 reward through the Bucks County Crime Stoppers. To report a tip, call 215-345-3784, or your local police department.
