Upcoming Shredder/Recycling Event
Start thinking ahead! I will be hosting a free Shredder/Recycling Event to give all residents of the 143rd Legislative District the opportunity to safely dispose of personal documents, worn/torn U.S. flags, eyeglasses, hearing aids, clothing, household items and old, unused or expired medications for proper disposal by the Council of Southeast and the Doylestown Township police. The event will take place on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Groveland Elementary School, 1100 North Easton Road, Doylestown. Please call my district office for additional information 215-489-2126.
DEP Spraying to Control Black Flies
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) started aerial spraying on more than 1,600 miles of streams in 37 Pennsylvania counties, including Bucks, to control black flies. In Bucks County, the Delaware River and Tohickon Creek will be sprayed. Spraying activities will be performed by helicopter and ground crews and their frequency will depend upon weather and biological conditions. DEP uses Bti, a naturally occurring bacterium, to treat the larval stage of four specific human pest black fly species. This bacterium degrades quickly in the environment and does not harm the aquatic ecosystem, birds, or other insects. For more information on Pennsylvania's Black Fly Suppression Program, click here.
Healthcare Decisions Day
Betsy Payn, Marv Woodall and Veronica Coyne from Looking Ahead Advanced Care Planning joined me in my district office recently to mark National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). The day has grown into a week and was marked this year from April 16-22. The motivation behind NHDD is to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. I introduced earlier this month to mark NHDD in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Small Business Week
To recognize the contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners, National Small Business Week will be held May 1-7. Throughout the week, events, trainings, webinars and small business resources will be available to small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Small businesses make up the majority of job creators in Pennsylvania and across the country. Buying locally helps enhance the economic growth of our region. If you're interested in patronizing businesses in our area, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce maintains a list by category. I will be visiting many of our local businesses throughout the week.

Below is a list of the webinars that will be held next week: "
• Monday, May 1 (noon) - Resources for Entrepreneurs & Small Businesses, presented by Betsy Lockwood, SEDA-COG. "
• Tuesday, May 2 (noon) - Registering a Business in Pennsylvania, presented by PA Departments of State, Revenue, and Labor & Industry. "
• Wednesday, May 3 (noon) - Government Procurement & Diverse Business Certification, presented by PA Department of General Services. "
• Thursday, May 4 (noon) - Raising Capital in Pennsylvania, presented by PA Department of Banking and Securities. "
• Friday, May 5 (noon) - Entrepreneur Stories of Small Business Success, presented by Jennifer Gill, President of Exact Match Masonry Staining; Vivian Isaak, President of Magnum Group; and Maryann Petta Cook, Founder and President of Bella Lucia.

Prescription Drug Take Back Set for April 29

Local law enforcement agencies across Pennsylvania will accept unwanted, expired and unused prescription drugs on Saturday, April 29 as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., unwanted prescription medications may be dropped off at select locations. No personal information is required to participate in a drop-off. Several police departments in Bucks County will be taking part. Unwanted or expired prescription painkillers should never be kept in your home. Individuals struggling with addiction can be extraordinarily creative in searching for drugs, and can do so without homeowners ever being aware. Please discard such medications at a drop-box location for proper disposal. Do not flush them. Many such medications can seep into the water supply, where they can have toxic effects on fish and other wildlife.

Highways in Bucks County to be Resurfaced
Starting Monday, May 1, a $2.6 million project to repair and resurface 12 miles of state highway in Bucks County will get underway. The project will run through late October.

As such, Burnt House Road will be closed between U.S. 202 and Cold Spring Creamery Road in Buckingham Township from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays through the end of May.

Motorists will be detoured over Cold Spring Creamery Road, Route 313 (Swamp Road) and U.S. 202. The additional state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this contract include:

• Route 32 (River Road) from Dark Hollow Road to west of Bridgeton Hill Road in Tinicum and Bridgeton townships; and
• Richlandtown Road/Union Road/Main Street between the Tohickon Creek and Towne Court Drive in East Rockhill, Haycock and Richland townships, and Richlandtown Borough.

Motorcycle Courses Offered
With the approach of warmer temperatures and the motorcycle riding season in Pennsylvania, PennDOT urges riders to prepare by taking a free motorcycle training course. Free courses for novice through seasoned riders are offered at numerous locations statewide to Pennsylvania residents who have a motorcycle learner's permit or motorcycle license. All training courses are conducted on a riding range, under the supervision of certified instructors. Courses are available to riders of all skill levels, including those under the age of 18 who are seeking their motorcycle license. For more information, or to enroll in a course or find a location near you, visit pamsp.com or call 1-800-845-9533.
